Author Michael Casey records that while the CoC was once happy to be thought of as "outsiders" for their devotion to the simple and plain teachings of Christ, by the latter half of the 20th century, that radical commitment to peace had been replaced with "the establishment rhetoric of Caesar."
It's a worth-while article. Have a look.
